You are  reading this blog because you either Googled or Binged one of the keywords of the title of this blog looking vigorously on how to secure your communication with others. Well you are in the right place. The reason behind this blog post is to inform others on mainly how to secure your chat conversations in Facebook since they do not allow you the option of deleting your chat history. Uh wait, what? That’s right they utilize the Jabber protocol equipped with hard core programing skillz utilizing the erlang programing language. OK let me give you an example to prove my point—We know of Gmail or have a Gmail account right guys? Anyways did you know Gmail stores all your chat conversations (Its default on all Jabber [XMMP] servers). You can view all your chat conversation in your Gmail account under more and then click Chat. OK have you been wowed or what…If you’ve known about this, have a carrot.

I will first start on how to secure IM’s and then move on to SMS-MMS encryption for texting.

Have you guys heard of Off-the-Record (OTR) Messaging? OTR is a great way on how to secure your communication between your friends in Facebook – all major IM networks. What I love about it most is that it does not leave a trace of a digital signature of both recipients. Example:  if your messages between your colleagues on World Domination are taking place and the good guys do crack your messages so they can turn you in. You can say it was not me.

First off you need a chat client  supports OTR

Adium

comes built in only for mac.

Go to Preferences, Advance, Encryption, Hit Generate a private key for that account.

Go to your terminal and type

sudo apt-get install discus

After the installation is complete type into the terminal
# discus

Once you are done install Aquamacs
go back to your Terminal window and input: vi ~/.emacs
Add this into the file
